Today I’m super excited to be able to share with you some more details about the upcoming second instalment in my Perfect World series.
First up, I’ve been referring to it as Book 2 for months and I can now confirm that the title will be New Era! I chose this title because ‘Operation New Era’ is referenced by Ivan Williams in Perfect World and this operation of his provides much of the foundation for the second novel in the series.
New Era takes place three months after Perfect World. Eric is still living at the Serpentines and emotionally he’s not in a good place. He is still grieving for Adam and he’s also trying to find his own path. He has support from former L.S.A colleague and close friend, Simon Matheson, and Carla Ramirez, the Serpentine’s on-site doctor, however he’s also under pressure to pick up where Adam left off. Eric wants to become a true hero, but learning the truth about the L.S.A and Government has led Eric to question what that even means in this world. Events begin to move faster than Eric is prepared for and culminate in creating a situation where he’s forced to make an impossible decision.
New Era is predominately written from Eric’s perspective, however, there are parts written from Adam’s too. The novel further explores the father-son relationship that Adam believed he had with his godfather, Ivan Williams, and also provides some additional insight into Williams’ own feelings where Adam is concerned. There is also an introduction of a key character who made his first appearance in the companion novel, Adam.
I’ve had a lot of people question why I decide to write Adam before New Era and this was because there are events in Adam that tie into it and had I written New Era first then there would be things that wouldn’t make sense.
New Era is multifaceted, as is the Perfect World series as a whole. It’s an action-packed, superhero series with the added twist of the hero falling in love with the villain. There’s also the common enemy who are the real villains of the story that both Eric and Adam have to face either reconciled together or apart. The Perfect World series also questions what it truly means to be a hero; selflessness, bravery, holding onto your morality no matter what? Or does it involve stepping into that darkness that separates you from the villains for the greater good. Do you sacrifice your own morality and soul to preserve and fight for what you believe in? New Era delves deeper into these questions, thus creating inner conflict for Eric as he is torn between being the person that he wants to be and the person that others would have him become.
I don’t yet have a release date for New Era but over the next month or so I’m hoping to be able to confirm this as well as share with you all the cover reveal and official synopsis!
