Lovesick Titans

By Amanda Meuwissen

Genre: Gay Romance, Urban Fantasy, Superhero

Not even a Titan can always stand up to a God.

Malcom Cho is in over his head, wrapped up in a love affair with his superhero nemesis Zeus, who most people in Olympus City only know as Detective Danny Grant.

Lovesick Titans begins where Lovesick Gods left off, after a heist gone wrong that ended with a museum guard dead and Mal and Danny beaten and exhausted from their fight with the new threat in town, Cassidy Ludgate—Hades.

Unaware that Ludgate’s true motivation is revenge for the death of his father at Zeus’s hands, Mal wants only to keep Danny close, while Danny races to solve the cases surrounding Ludgate to stop him from whatever he has planned for them next.

What Mal doesn’t know is that Danny didn’t pursue him with the purest of intentions but sought to break his heart in retaliation for not being there when he needed him in the fight against Thanatos. Even though Danny no longer seeks that end, the lies between them loom like a shadow about to descend upon them both.

And Hades has only begun to toy with them…

Synopsis

Conscience isn’t something all people are born with…

Gabriel Church is a portrait in contrast. It would be easy to get lost in his pale-blue eyes, ache with the need to feel the strength of his masculine frame. He appears to be nothing but animal and instinct. The only people who know the full depth of that truth are dead, murdered, or two thousand miles away.

Gabe is a serial killer, and for the first time in his life, he has more on his mind than his own survival. This time he is running from Seattle to protect the only person he thinks innocent in his laundry list of crime and murder: Christian Maxwell, his biographer and unexpected lover.

Drawn to a place he never thought to return, Gabe finds new and different realities. Realities that insist he let go of his tragic past, those incredible perceptions of God, and his own divinity. He must open his eyes to what the love of a good man can do to heal a broken soul.

Edo’s Awakening (Stories of The Conscious Dreamer Series #1) by Sharolyn G Brown

Edo is a Dream Traveler on the verge of completing his mission from his gods, and ascending to the next caste. However, when things go wrong with his mission on Earth, Edo is held responsible for this potential failure. As punishment, he’s stripped of his caste privileges. Edo, who only knows life as a Traveler, quickly finds himself at the mercy of his Helper, Danyu, for assistance navigating this new world.

As he spends time in Danyu’s world, Edo sees a side of life in the compound that’s foreign to him. Though Danyu tries to keep him in the dark about what’s happening, the little he does see makes him question his own life. Once he starts to question everything he’s believed was true, can Edo go back to being who he was before his punishment?

This novella takes place before the events in The Heaviness of Knowing and can be read as a standalone novel.

Edo’s Awakening is a companion novella to The Conscious Dreamer Series and events within this novella take place before The Heaviness of Knowing, which is the first book in the series.

In Edo’s Awakening, dream traveller Edo is tasked with assisting his Earth connection Liam in the building of test rockets. His work is overseen by The Keepers whom he believes are Gods and must be obeyed without question. Edo is one of the best travellers and he is confident that he will complete his mission. However when he finds himself unable to make contact with Liam, Edo is called in front of The Keepers’ Representatives where he learns that the test rocket killed an Earthling thus putting his entire mission in jeopardy. If Liam fails on Earth then Edo will die. Until he can re-establish a connection with Liam, Edo finds himself stripped of his caste and forced into manual labour as punishment for the failure. Forced to rely completely on his helper, Danyu, Edo begins to discover the truth about The Keepers and the secret resistance that is building against them.

I really enjoyed learning how Edo discovered the truth about The Keepers. He is one of my favourite characters in the series so it was great to read his backstory and discover more about his past. The novella also gave some more information of the early days of the resistance as well as setting things up nicely for the first novel in the series. I had great sympathy for Edo throughout the novella. His dedication and fear of The Keepers was very well conveyed and you really got a sense of how completely in control they were despite them being more of a passive threat rather than ever present.

Edo’s Awakening is a great read. It’s fast-paced and gripping right from the first page, and serves as an excellent introduction to The Conscious Dreamer series.

Review: Tempus Investigations: A Fictional TV Show by Claus Holm

Jim Corrigan died in 1933… but he returned to life. Now, he can’t die.

Through the first season, Jim and his friends matches wits with the supernatural side of San Francisco, making both new friends – and a few enemies.

Tempus Investigations mixes the world of TV and books, making a unique kind of story – a fan fiction so elaborate it needed to create the show itself. In this book, you’ll find the first four episodes, which form Season 1.

If you love shows like Buffy, Angel and Supernatural – tune in for Tempus Investigations!

Tempus Investigations is a novel written as though it were a TV series. When the author first approached me with the review request I was really intrigued and thought what a unique idea! If he pulls this off it’ll be an awesome read. And he did!

This novel serves as season 1. It follows the investigations of Private Detective Jim Corrigan who takes on cases of the supernatural variety either from direct approaches by clients or ones that were passed to him by his contact in the police force.

Having survived a shooting in 1933 Jim awakens to discover that he is now immortal. He can also communicate with spirits and uses this gift to help with his investigations, although the ghosts aren’t always that keen on helping! The novel is divided into four standalone stories that, like a TV series, build on the plot running through the series as a whole.

I really enjoyed reading each ‘episode’ in the series. Each one was very different and cleverly crafted to keep the reader guessing right up until the last moment. They also built on developing the main characters, their relationships and, like in a TV show, served as introduction episodes for Jim’s team. I loved the fond banter between Jim and Mercedes, high-lighting more than words just how close they are.  The style of writing is excellent. The dialogue flowed well and the fast-pace immediately immersed you into the world.

If you enjoy supernatural and mystery fiction (and also TV series’ in these genres) then I definitely recommend reading Tempus Investigations.

Shabby Sunday: Remember Me by Christopher Pike

My chosen book for this week is Remember Me by Christopher Pike

If, like me, you’re a child of the 90s you would have most likely read some of Christopher Pike’s young adult novels. I also read a lot of Point Horrors, but Pike’s novels were always my favourites due to the more adult tone and themes running throughout each of his works. Remember Me was, and still is, my favourite and the novel that left the most lasting impression on me.  Continue reading “Shabby Sunday: Remember Me by Christopher Pike”

Lovesick Gods

By Amanda Meuwissen

Genre: Gay Romance, Urban Fantasy, Superhero

Lovesick_Gods_Cover_for_Kindle

Heroes aren’t meant to act like their villains—or fall in love with them.

The elements touch everyone on Earth—Fire, Water, even Light—but every so often someone becomes more attuned to their elemental leaning and develops true power. When an evil Elemental known as Thanatos arrived in Olympus City, it saw the rise of its first hero—Zeus. But the death toll caused by defeating Thanatos changed Zeus, who by day is young detective Danny Grant.

It’s been six months since Thanatos terrorized the city at the start of Lovesick Gods. Danny should be used to his duty behind the mask, but the recent past haunts him. His girlfriend left him, he snaps at the barest provocation, his life feels empty—he needs an outlet, any outlet to pull him out of his depression.

Enter notorious thief Malcolm Cho, the Ice Elemental Prometheus. There was a time when Danny welcomed a fight with Cho, filled with colorful banter and casual flirtations that were a relief compared to Thanatos. Even as a criminal, Cho had recognized the threat Thanatos posed and promised to help Danny stop him, but the day Danny needed Cho, he never showed. Cho was the reason so many people died that day—including Danny’s mother.

Danny decides to teach the man a lesson and fan the fire of their attraction into something more. At worst, he’ll get some no-strings-attached sex out of the deal and finally blow off steam; at best, he’ll get Cho to fall in love with him and then break his heart to spite him. Danny doesn’t expect to fall for Cho in the process, and he certainly can’t predict the much darker threat on the horizon.
