Update

As I have not been on social media that much over the last couple of weeks, I thought I would write a quick update explaining the reason for my absence.

I’ve been suffering from a really bad viral infection which also resulted in a burst ear drum! I have been resting up and am feeling a lot better now apart from not being able to hear much in my left ear. My doctor told me this should improve over the next few weeks so fingers-crossed it does.

This means I am behind with my reading and writing so there will be no monthly reading list for a little while until I can catch up. I’m starting to look at Perfect World 3 again and hope to have an update on this very soon.

I hope everyone is well and I am looking forward to catching up with you all!

About the Book

Fifty previous Torkiyan missions were lost to time and space, but new technology gives Mission 51 a better chance to reach the legendary planet Cerulea—also known as planet Earth.mission 51 cover

Zeemat, a peaceful Torkiyan who’d rather hold a paintbrush than a weapon, has been assigned to his planet’s fifty-first mission against his own will. After suffering a catastrophic journey, Zeemat’s spacecraft crashes in what becomes known as Area 51. Taken captive by a rather brutal cohort of FBI agents, he finds a friend only in his gentle and kind translator, Dr. Linda Deltare. As the FBI torture grows increasingly merciless, Zeemat must find a way to escape his holding cell or perish, never to see the outside world he traveled so far to see.

In his quest for freedom and happiness, Zeemat must learn to survive in a strange new land and fight against militant forces from both his native and adopted planets alike.

Monthly Reading List

I’m a bit late in posting the read list this month due to being ill again and my brain not wanting to cooperate in helping me remember these things! I have added just two books again this month as I am still trying to clear my TBR queue! I am looking forward to reading them and finishing the ones that I have started already!

Seventeen-year-old horror fan Cain Shannon thought helping a ghost find her killers would be the supernatural adventure of a lifetime. Now, he just hopes to survive long enough to protect his family and friends from her.

A bet between friends goes horribly wrong, resulting in Sarah’s death. When she returns to seek justice against those responsible, Cain agrees to help her. But when he discovers Sarah has been hijacking his body, he realizes she wants retribution instead of justice.

Terrified of what could have happened when he wasn’t in control, Cain commands Sarah to leave his house – but exorcising her isn’t that easy. She retaliates against her murderers in bloody, horrific ways, each death making her stronger, then sets her sights on Cain. With the help of friends, Cain fights to save himself and his loved ones and searches for a way to stop Sarah before she kills again.

A vast grey zone on the maps, the forest has always been seen as a place of grisly tales, outlaws, and disappearances. The men had travelled around through more civilised paths, leaving the woods alone. Until the country came in need of a new float.

For the first team of lumberjacks, it’s a routine job. Select trees and build a camp to hold winter until the spring flood. But in the depths of the forest, under ancient oaks, lie ruins. When the loggers pitch their tents in the overgrown garden, they are unaware of the crime they just committed.

For the native hidden in the nearby village, desolation has come. For the loggers, the nightmare has begun. And what’s hiding in the ruins won’t let them go.

Shari Reviews Stuff: Suck UK Cat Bowl

IMG_6609Purchase Link: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07P5NHQM3/

I’ve been meaning to get Tash a new water bowl for a little while and when I saw this I just couldn’t resist! The idea is that the fish glued to the bottom of the bowl will encourage your cat to try to ‘fish’ it out!

The bowl is a really good size and is not too deep or too shallow. It’s heavy enough that it doesn’t get knocked by an over-enthusiastic fishing expedition! It is well made, and the fish is stuck firmly to the bottom so there is no chance of a cat being able to pull it off! I was really impressed with the quality and the design, but I guess Tash should be the real reviewer here!

Unfortunately, she hasn’t quite got the idea of it yet! She has shown some interest but she’s usually keener on the contents in her other bowl! I’m hoping she will interact more with it when it has been there a while as she does take a while to get used to new things! IMG_6610

Book Review: Ékleipsis: the Abyss by Tamel Wino

The seed of evil has been planted …

What will happen when its roots take hold?

Ékleipsis: The Abyss is the second short story collection by the award-winning author.

Tales of depravation and insanity are woven together with unrelenting style and depth, scrutinizing human nature’s degeneration when compromised by tragic, vicious circumstances.

These complex, wretched individuals and the irremediable conditions they are desperate to claw out of—or into—invoke the unfathomable question: What devastation are we truly capable of when left with no way out but down . . . into the obscurity of the abyss?

Goodreads: Ékleipsis: the Abyss by Tamel Wino

Review

Rating: 5 stars

*I received this novel for free in exchange for an honest review*

Ékleipsis: the Abyss is a collection of short horror novels with a focus on the darker side of human nature. I was drawn to reading this collection as the premise and ideas behind it sounded really gripping and promised an intense and dark read. It did not disappoint.

Each tale is a standalone story with well-developed characters. Some are good people to which bad things happen, some are morally grey, and others are definitely darker in nature. The stories are paced perfectly and there are many twists and turns to keep you guessing until the last minute. Some play off more modern threats (internet stalkers!) and others on more traditional fears (hitchhiking and ending up in a car with a possible serial killer), and each one delves into the human mind and the natures of the protagonists and antagonists alike.

If you enjoy psychological horror and short stories, then I recommend you reading Ékleipsis: the Abyss!

New Year’s Update!

Happy New Year everyone! I hope however you spent it you had a good one!

Like a lot of people, I am making New Year’s Resolutions, but unlike the previous years I am determined to make it until the end of the year without them falling by the wayside.

The main one is very simple: catch up.

Due to circumstances and illness, I am massively behind with my writing and reading. As it stands with Perfect World 3 the cover is done, the summary is done and the final version is due back from my betas at some point in the next month or so. I then need to do the final edits/read through. Then I can start thinking about the cover reveal and release date. I am still hesitant to put a timetable on it due to ongoing circumstances I have, but I am hopeful that it will be during the first half of the year.

I wrote a scene for the first time in a little while last night. It wasn’t for a novel, I sometimes just write scenes with two characters to see how they interact with each other without any specific plot or idea in mind. Last night, I chose Thane and Atsuo from my Demon’s Blood universe. Thane and Atsuo have not yet shared any ‘screen time’ together so far in the series, but they work well together so that’s good news for future novels!

I am still a few reviews behind schedule from last year, but I am getting there and once again I apologise to everyone who is currently waiting on a review from me. I have temporarily closed review requests to give myself time to catch up. Requests will open again once I have caught up and the release date for Perfect World 3 has been decided.

My other goal for the year is to be more healthy. I want to start exercising again, and also going for more walks. I have the beach two minutes down the road from me, so I intend to make the most of this for evening strolls!

I’m also hoping to make a reappearance on social media after being absent for so long!

Description

The day after telekinetic supervillain (and billionaire philanthropist), Stetson Nadenheimer dies, he wakes up on the autopsy table and falls in lust with the man hired to cut his cold, dead corpse open. The problem is that the forensic pathologist is Doctor Julian Dandridge, the part-time superhero, Scatter. It’s probably a bad idea for a supervillain to get into bed with a superhero. Probably.

Not that it stops him, but trying to start a relationship with a reluctant hero without getting caught turns out to be easier said than done. Between midnight meetings over games of checkers and kinky secrets, Stetson and Julian begin a tremulous romance. Unfortunately for them, there’s an actual villain watching from the shadows, waiting for Stetson to stumble.
