Shari’s Life: Old Photos

Photo 3aAs far back as I can remember, my Dad’s always been interested in our family history. He has spent a great deal of time researching the family and he also put together a book of his research so I am not the only writer in the family!

He recently gave me these very old photos that he was gifted by his cousin. I would say they are late 1800s/early 1900s and the originals are very faded.

 

Photo 1Sadly over time their identities have been lost as everyone who knew them is no longer with us. Dad hopes to identify them and asked me if there was anything I could do to enhance them. I did the best I could and hope that it will help him to do so. It got me thinking about all the prints I have and I will make sure I find time to write on the back who every one is so future generations are not left wondering who these people were to me.

Grandad’s Shop

Quite a few years ago my Grandad used to own the newsagent ‘Rapsons’ in a street in Chichester, West Sussex called ‘The Hornet’. It has changed hands and uses a few times now since he owned it and up until recently it used to be an Art Gallery. The newest owners are in the process of renovating it. Whilst doing so they uncovered the original 1890s shop sign that had been preserved underneath various newer signs that had been added over the years.

My Dad enjoys researching local history and he uncovered some history about the original shop and its owner.
