Shari’s Life: Day in Brighton

Shari's Life

IMG_8699Yesterday me, my sister and nephew went to Brighton for the day. We went to the Sea Life Centre first, which we all really enjoy! It is in the original Victorian building so as well as seeing some amazing sea creatures, I got to enjoy the Gothic architecture too! My nephew loved it. He has been a few times before but always gets so excited! We were also able to watch them feeding the turtles and piranhas. As well as sea creatures they had a colony of leaf cutter ants. It was fascinating to watch them carrying leaves about four times the size of them up and down the tube tunnels and into their ant hills. My favourites are always the sea horses though. They are so adorable!

We’re going to try and do at least one outing like this a month with my nephew as he enjoys them so much. He’s been asking to go back to ‘see the Romans’ so next month we will probably do the Roman Palace at Fishbourne. As it gets more to the summer we can also do more out-doorsy attractions again like the Wetlands Trust at Arundel and the Weald and Downland Museum which is a firm favourite with all of us!

0181E382-E9D3-4BA9-82E6-C125A9EAE65FAfter the Sea Life Centre, we got some lunch and went to look round some of the shops. It was very busy so we didn’t linger, but we did visit the Miniso store which I loved! We had been once before but it was before Covid I think! Honestly, I could have spent so much in there but I was very restrained and only bought 3 things!  I bought two blind capsule beach dolls that look absolutely adorable! I cannot wait to open them and see who I got! I also bought this lego-ish Fragrance Store model! They also had the fan shop and sandwich bar, which I want to go back and get when we go back to Brighton next month!

My plans for today are to walk down to the Tesco Superstore in a bit to check for the Valentines Day squishmallows. I have been checking for weeks now and they haven’t had them 😦 My sister found a few of the ones we wanted in the Tesco Extra at Fishbourne but we still need to find Leon the Monster so I am hoping today will be the day!

When I get back from there I have some overtime booked for work and then I am going to do some more writing. I really want to hit Chapter 30 of Demon’s Past today if possible! I have also got back into Animal Crossing and hope to finally finish Mallepa 2.0!

I hope you are all having a great weekend!

Shari’s Life: Writing and Social Media

Shari's Life

Rather than New Year’s resolutions that I always fail to keep, I set myself a couple of goals for this year. One is to finish and publish Demon’s Past. I feel that this is achievable as I am more than halfway through now. I started writing this novel at least two years ago now and have been reluctant to finish it as I felt when I started that it would be the last book featuring Taku and Thane. The two of them are characters that mean a lot to me and I didn’t want to ‘let them go’ as it were. However, I do feel that there is more scope to continue their story after Demon’s Past, but I will only publish further a continuation if I feel it is as good as the other books featuring them. The Demon’s Blood universe will certainly continue as I have more of Koji’s story to tell as well his relationship with Atsuo.

Another goal is to start Perfect World 4. I believe I can certainly do this too and I have the opening scene all planned out, I just need to put pen to paper as it were. I doubt a draft will be finalised this year, but a start will be something and I am very keen to do this.

My last goal is to maintain a consistent social media presence. I don’t know if anyone else finds this but for me social media is hard. A lot of it is to do with my social anxiety and I’ve never had any negative feedback to what I post, but it is still there. So for me this is out of my comfort zone, but something I am keen to do. I am taking this slowly and am sticking to Instagram mainly for the time being. It is the social media I enjoy the most as I get to show my creative side with designing my posts too. My Instagram page is here if you want to check it out or follow me on that. I am aiming to post a couple of times a week at the moment.

Have you set any goals for the year? If so, I would love to here what they are and how they are coming along!

New Look Website!

I hope everyone had a great Christmas. I hosted in my flat for the first time. It was a very fun (and chaotic!) day. Yesterday I had a chilled out Boxing Day. I binged my way through the first season of House of the Dragon, which I loved! I also made a new Instagram for my mini toys and collecting. It’s called Riisan Collectibles!

Today I have been sorting out some bits around my flat and I also re-vamped my website and social media pages. I am pleased at how it turned out. It looks a lot cleaner and it will make it easier for me to inter-change things which is great. I’m hoping to be able to get in a writing day on Friday. Taku and Thane have been waiting for the continuation to their story for way too long! I also have the first scene from Perfect World 4 pictured in my head so I might get that started too!

Print Proof of New Era

I’ve managed to pick up another viral infection, so I am feeling pretty yuck today but my proof copy of New Era (Perfect World Book 2) print edition arrived so that cheered me up! It looks really good and I can’t wait to be able to sign it off for publication! I will have to wait a bit though as it contains the blurb for Perfect World Book 3 which hasn’t been released yet!

I have also managed to stick to my writing goals for the week so far! I am over halfway through the formatting for Perfect World 3 and I’ve been able to write a chapter of Demon’s Past so I am very happy about that!

New Year’s Update!

Happy New Year everyone! I hope however you spent it you had a good one!

Like a lot of people, I am making New Year’s Resolutions, but unlike the previous years I am determined to make it until the end of the year without them falling by the wayside.

The main one is very simple: catch up.

Due to circumstances and illness, I am massively behind with my writing and reading. As it stands with Perfect World 3 the cover is done, the summary is done and the final version is due back from my betas at some point in the next month or so. I then need to do the final edits/read through. Then I can start thinking about the cover reveal and release date. I am still hesitant to put a timetable on it due to ongoing circumstances I have, but I am hopeful that it will be during the first half of the year.

I wrote a scene for the first time in a little while last night. It wasn’t for a novel, I sometimes just write scenes with two characters to see how they interact with each other without any specific plot or idea in mind. Last night, I chose Thane and Atsuo from my Demon’s Blood universe. Thane and Atsuo have not yet shared any ‘screen time’ together so far in the series, but they work well together so that’s good news for future novels!

I am still a few reviews behind schedule from last year, but I am getting there and once again I apologise to everyone who is currently waiting on a review from me. I have temporarily closed review requests to give myself time to catch up. Requests will open again once I have caught up and the release date for Perfect World 3 has been decided.

My other goal for the year is to be more healthy. I want to start exercising again, and also going for more walks. I have the beach two minutes down the road from me, so I intend to make the most of this for evening strolls!

I’m also hoping to make a reappearance on social media after being absent for so long!

Progress Report

Progress Report 2

It has been a little while since my last update, so I thought I would let you all know how my progress has been going since my last post.

Perfect World 3 is still out for beta reading and I hope to receive all the feedback by the end of the year. In the meantime, I have finished the cover design and drafted the summary. I am really having to restrain myself when it comes to putting that out as I want to wait until everything is ready before the cover reveal. I hope to be able to do this in January, which is not too far off now! I am also drafting book 4 in the series so hopefully there will not be such a massive gap between releases this time!

I am also writing the second draft of Demon’s Past which is the next novel in my Demon’s Blood universe. I am really enjoying writing about Taku and Thane’s time together before the events in Demon’s Blood and I cannot wait to share their story with you all.

In the New Year I would also like to pick up my fantasy novel again. I started this way back for my first NaNoWriMo and I really want to give Fayte and Marnai the story that they deserve. I have it all planned out now, I just need the time to write it!

I also haven’t forgotten about my new segment on my blog ‘Shari Reviews Stuff’. I have a new review drafted and this should hopefully go up this week.

So things are busy ‘behind the scenes’ as we reach the end of the year! I hope everyone is keeping well and I will share further updates with you all soon!

Progress Report

Progress Report

As it’s been a while since I took a break from social media to concentrate on my own works, I thought I would post this update to let you all know how everything is going.

I have now finished all my edits of Perfect World 3. It will be going for beta reading shortly, leaving me free to concentrate on other things for a while. I have made a start on the cover design and I am super excited about what I have so far! Hopefully soon I can share this with you all as well as the title of book 3!

I am also working on the print edition of New Era (Perfect World #2) and I hope to have this finished in a few weeks. The plan is to release both kindle and print editions of Perfect World 3 at the same time as I always seem to be playing catch up with the print copies!

As well I have started writing book 4. At the moment there are 5 planned books in the series, but there may be a potential for more.

I haven’t worked much on my Demon’s Blood series, but I have been planning some things. I want to concentrate on Demon’s Past before going back to where Demon’s Life left off and picking up with Koji and Atsuo there.

So I have a lot planned and hope to be able to reveal more details of Perfect World 3 in the coming weeks!

What Day is it Anyway? Sunday, 21st June 2020

My Day: I signed off the proofs of Demon’s Blood and Demon’s Life today! I’m so excited to have finally have print copies and cannot wait to see them live in the Amazon store! I’m going to start working on the print copies for my Perfect Word series next. I think I will start with Adam as the print copy is already live it just needs the new publisher logo added to the cover.

I feel like I have achieved so much with my novels in the last few months and I cannot decide whether it is entirely due to the lock-down or whether I am finally getting organised with my free-time. Either way I intend to continue it when lock-down has ended.

I’ve spent most of today working on Perfect World 3. Things are starting to get quite dark now. Its making writing it quite heavy going so I need to have more breaks and do something happy like play Animal Crossing!

Linda G. Hill came up with this great idea to keep track of the weeks and months ahead. For those who already are, and will be isolated in the coming weeks, it is important to all come together and support each other.
