Shari’s Life: Writing and Sorting

Shari's Life

So here we are, at the end of February already and I am still not entirely sure where January and February all went! However, I am looking forward to warmer weather and spring to come!

I haven’t written as much as I would have liked to this month. I managed 2 chapters of Demon’s Past in total, but I am taking the attitude that every word written is a step closer to finishing so I am not allowing myself to get too frustrated with this. I finished Chapter Twenty-Nine this morning, which is a pivotal chapter in Taku and Thane’s story! I post little snippets of Demon’s Past over on my Instagram account so do please check that out!

image1With the help from my sister, I was able to have the massive sort out in my flat that I wanted to do and have moved the furniture around in my lounge. It is amazing what a difference a layout change makes. It also feels much more spacious and I even have a slight echo to the room now! I also reorganised the squishmallow invasion so they all have new shelves to live in now. I also got this neat cake stand from Ebay to put the little squishvilles in!

My goal of keeping up with Social Media hasn’t gone much as planned so far but I am hopeful of changing this in the coming weeks! I want to get back to more regular posts on here too! So keep an eye out for that in the coming weeks too!

I hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Shari’s Life: Day in Brighton

Shari's Life

IMG_8699Yesterday me, my sister and nephew went to Brighton for the day. We went to the Sea Life Centre first, which we all really enjoy! It is in the original Victorian building so as well as seeing some amazing sea creatures, I got to enjoy the Gothic architecture too! My nephew loved it. He has been a few times before but always gets so excited! We were also able to watch them feeding the turtles and piranhas. As well as sea creatures they had a colony of leaf cutter ants. It was fascinating to watch them carrying leaves about four times the size of them up and down the tube tunnels and into their ant hills. My favourites are always the sea horses though. They are so adorable!

We’re going to try and do at least one outing like this a month with my nephew as he enjoys them so much. He’s been asking to go back to ‘see the Romans’ so next month we will probably do the Roman Palace at Fishbourne. As it gets more to the summer we can also do more out-doorsy attractions again like the Wetlands Trust at Arundel and the Weald and Downland Museum which is a firm favourite with all of us!

0181E382-E9D3-4BA9-82E6-C125A9EAE65FAfter the Sea Life Centre, we got some lunch and went to look round some of the shops. It was very busy so we didn’t linger, but we did visit the Miniso store which I loved! We had been once before but it was before Covid I think! Honestly, I could have spent so much in there but I was very restrained and only bought 3 things!  I bought two blind capsule beach dolls that look absolutely adorable! I cannot wait to open them and see who I got! I also bought this lego-ish Fragrance Store model! They also had the fan shop and sandwich bar, which I want to go back and get when we go back to Brighton next month!

My plans for today are to walk down to the Tesco Superstore in a bit to check for the Valentines Day squishmallows. I have been checking for weeks now and they haven’t had them 😦 My sister found a few of the ones we wanted in the Tesco Extra at Fishbourne but we still need to find Leon the Monster so I am hoping today will be the day!

When I get back from there I have some overtime booked for work and then I am going to do some more writing. I really want to hit Chapter 30 of Demon’s Past today if possible! I have also got back into Animal Crossing and hope to finally finish Mallepa 2.0!

I hope you are all having a great weekend!

Shari’s Life: Live stream, birthday and Christmas Plans!

Shari's Life

First of all today, I have some exciting news to share with you all! Briony Rose Smith, author of the Moon Girl series, is going to be reading a couple of chapters of Perfect World on her live stream today! Do please check it out if you can!

Perfect World Live Stream!

It was my birthday yesterday, so me, Sarah and Georgie went into town to have lunch at our favourite tapas restaurant and then did a bit of toy hunting! I was able to pick up a few things as well as 2 birthday squish! We had a look round Tesco and Sainsburys, it was insanely busy and not the most enjoyable experience! We then went to B&M and Home Bargains. We picked up a few table decorations for Christmas! I’m hosting for the first time in my flat this year so we wanted to make it extra special! I also found these Jurassic World Dominion mini blind bags for 99p each! I picked up a few as they will go perfectly with the Jurassic World Dinosaur Garden my friends gave me for my birthday!

It’s my last week at work until the New Year this week. I am only working Monday-Wednesday which is great as I will have some time to get ready for the big day! On Thursday we are taking Georgie to the Weald and Downland Museum for their Father Christmas event. This could go either way – yesterday he was greeted by a Santa in the town and he burst into tears ^^;;

On Friday I am having my pre-Christmas sort out! My flat always descends into chaos in December so I want to make sure it is tidy for Christmas Day! Then on Christmas Eve we are going to Portsmouth for the day to do some shopping (and squish hunting!).

I have also made a list of things I want to achieve over the Christmas break. I want to try and overhaul my website and social media to give it a refreshed look for the New Year. I am also going to set up a dedicated Instagram for my toy hunting and collecting. I will still post some reviews on here, but there is much more that I want to showcase and I feel having its own space would be best!

It is the last week now before the big day! I hope everyone is having fun getting ready for it!

Shari’s Life: Black Friday Squish Haul and getting ready for Christmas!

Shari's Life

I can’t remember the last time I wrote a Shari’s Life post! Things have been so super busy, as they always are this time of year! I am amazed at how quickly the end of the year has snuck up! I think I literally have one free day on a weekend now before Christmas Day which is insane!

As is our tradition, me and my sister hit the shops on Black Friday. We were able to get all of our Christmas shopping done and of course some Squishmallow hunting. We went to Portsmouth as it has a lot more variety of shops than closer to where we live, and we were really successful. Most of the squish I got came from Claires. They had this insanely good offer of 50% off plushies and also buy 3 get 3 free! We had so much stuff that we ended up going back to Sarah’s house after we finished in Portsmouth to drop it all off before going out to Chichester to check their Claires. They had the offer too and different squish, so we got 6 more between us! Then on Saturday I went to my local Claires and they had the offer as well and more different ones!

IMG_8261I was also able to pick up some Squishville and the Christmas squad from Tesco! I said I would only buy Cam, Avery and Winston but when I saw the rest I couldn’t resist them! My Claires online order of Micromallows arrived too which was very exciting as I have never opened them before. On my first one I got Janet the Jellyfish which is the one I wanted most of all!

Overall, out of the haul I think my favourites are big Pilar the grasshopper (I have him 5 inch but when I saw the bigger one I couldn’t resist!), Vera the rainbow (I have been after her for so long!), Janet the Jellyfish Micromallow and Mario the dog (I think he’s a German shepherd but I am not sure!).

IMG_8264On Saturday I decided to be super organised and I wrapped all my Christmas presents up and put up my Christmas Tree! Putting up the tree is always a bit of a challenge as it doesn’t come in 3 segments like most artificial trees. Instead, the branches and trunk are separate and I need to put them on individually. They are colour coded but it still takes nearly 2 hours to do and then I have the struggle of putting all the lights on! I left the decorations off until Sunday as Georgie wanted to help with them. I did have to do some rearranging though as he hung them all together where he could reach!

I am really pleased with how it turned out! I do love my tree once it is up but it takes a long time to do!

I have booked to see Violent Night at the cinema on Monday afternoon as I am in town for the dentist so I thought I would do something fun afterwards! I don’t like traditional Christmas movies, but this is definitely not that! I don’t often go to the cinema now. I think the last time I went was to see Jurassic World Dominion!

So I am all ready for Christmas now (food is ordered too!), which is great as it means I can just enjoy the insanely busy build up!

Shari’s Life: Home Improvements, Shopping and writing update

Shari's Life

I’ve been continuing the home improvement theme lately and have been sorting out my flat and getting some new things in to make the place more my own. I’ve ordered a new wardrobe and a shelving unit from Ikea, and they are arriving Tuesday. The new wardrobe is a lot bigger, so I am looking forward to being able to finally put a lot of clothes away rather than have them in the temporary fabric storage that image3I’ve had for a couple of years now! On Wednesday, the handymen are coming to build my furniture, get rid of the old stuff and put up all my shelving too! It cannot happen soon enough, and I am looking forward to having a huge tidy-up and sort out once everything is ready! They are also going to open a cupboard that has been painted shut since I bought my flat. I have no idea what, if anything, is inside! To me it looks kind of spooky so that’s just in time for the beginning of the spooky season!

There have also been builders here all week finally fixing my bay window in my lounge! That has been a bit of a saga with the managing agents refusing to do anything about the rain coming in and the freezing cold in winter for 3 years now. Finally, after some complaints to the Ombudsman and the threat of legal action they have now agreed to get it sorted. The builders haven’t finished yet but already I can feel the temperature difference!

image0Yesterday I went to what me and Sarah call ‘the big 3′ which is Tesco, Sainsbury’s and B&M. We call them that as they are all within five-ten minutes’ walk of each other and when we do our Squishmallow hunts we check all three.  I went up to B&M first. They are starting to get squish in now after months of not having any, but they mainly had big ones today and until my shelves are up, I don’t have any more room for big ones! I did check their home section too and got these cute mats, a wall hanging and candle holder! I love B&M for little treasures like this as they are well-made and very affordable!

I went onto Sainsbury’s next, and they had the new Zaylee squad! I was able to grab 2 of her for me and Sarah. They had finally put their Halloween stuff out too! We are always so late in the UK for Halloween, but there have been Christmas aisles popping up in stores since June? I don’t get that at all really, but at least Halloween hasn’t been forgotten I guess! I got this very cute top and leggings set in there!

image2Tesco was my last stop. There wasn’t much there in squish-terms as they have had a clubcard offer on them all week and they are £6 with a clubcard rather than £9 so they were mostly all gone. They had a Halloween display too, but Sainsbury’s has the edge at the moment! They also had some amazing clubcard offers on kids toys in the Christmas section! There was this massive car carrier and all these little cars for £30 with clubcard and without was £50! I will be going back there when I start Christmas shopping to grab some bargains!

I also thought I would give you all an update on my writing progress as it has been a while. I am continuing with Demon’s Past, and I now have 26 chapters so I am over halfway! I had no idea how long this book would be, but I am loving every minute of it and cannot wait to share some snippets with you!

I am also writing my fantasy novel alongside it as I like to have a couple of projects on the go at once. I first drafted this for NaNoWriMo in 2007 (I think!) and it has undergone so many changes since then, but all for the better (I hope!).

Shari Reviews Stuff: Connor the Fuzz-a-mallow

Connor

Purchase Link: https://www.smythstoys.com/uk/en-gb/toys/fashion-and-dolls/squishmallows/squishmallows-40cm-fuzz-a-mallows-connor-the-cow-soft-toy/p/211971

Since his release a few months ago, Connor has quickly become the most sought after Squishmallow! I was lucky enough to get my own Connor last week as some friends of mine kindly checked their local Smyths store and found him for me! My ‘local’ store is in the next county so not easy to get to and online orders just sold out so fast!

Is he worth the hype? I would say yes! Connor is a fuzz-a-mallow so he is fluffy all over and feels extra cuddly! He’s 16 inches so one of the bigger (but not biggest!) squishmallows you can buy. He’s very well made and so cute! I have used him as a pillow (and so has Tash!) and he’s very soft to sleep on! I try not to do that too often though as I don’t want to make him go all flat!

He is definitely worth his £24.99 price ($28.91) so if you can find him in your local store, I do recommend adding him to your collection!

Shari’s Life: Icelandic Souvenirs

Shari's Life

I saw a lot of amazing things on my recent holiday to Iceland! And I bought some pretty great souvenirs back with me too! So here is a rundown of what I got!

IMG_7760One of the first things I bought was this really cool Icelandic / Viking necklace! It looks as though its a crow’s skull and I’m not entirely sure what it means but it glows in the dark too! I also got at the same time a precious stone with the rune for natures wrath on it which seemed appropriate somehow and this really cute sheep keyring!

I have already mentioned Khaled and the epic walk to find him in a previous post but I have to include him as he is one of my squishmallow dreams! I was so happy to find him as he has been an ISO of mine for a while now! In the same shop I also got a ty beanie baby called Rory the Rooster! He doubles as a phone screen cleaner too!

IMG_7759On the walk back to the hotel on the second day we also found this cool gift shop called Woolcano. We were able to pick up some presents for family and friends back home which was great. I was also able to get this lava rock which was something I really wanted to get too!

That’s pretty much most of the gets as I said it was quite expensive out there and I had limited suitcase room (and that was before I had to practically sit on it to get Khaled in!). I did get pretty much everything I wanted though and I was glad to be able to find gifts for everyone too!

Shari’s Life: Iceland Holiday Part 3

Shari's Life

I am now back from my holiday to Iceland which was just as amazing as I thought it would be! If you are looking for a holiday destination, I highly recommend it! The country is beautiful and the people are so lovely and welcoming!

I have split my post into 3 as it was very long! I hope you all enjoy my account of our adventures in the land of Fire and Ice!

Shari’s Top 5: Squishmallows

Top 5

Welcome to Shari’s Top 5! This is a new feature I have created to showcase my personal top 5 of various books, shows, toys, music, films, food, etc, whatever I fancy focusing on for each post really! For this post I am showcasing my top 5 squishmallows that I currently have in my collection!

Shari’s Top 5: Squishmallows

IMG_75775.  Number 5 is actually a tie between squishvilles Misty the mouse and Gary the giraffe! I chose Gary as not only is he adorable, he is the first squishville I ever got! If you have read a recent Shari’s life post you will know the epic tale (tail!) of how I got Misty. Basically I was using the torch on my phone to peer through a tiny hole in the capsule to see if I could see anything that could identify her! I was told that method would not work, but it did and I got her on my first try!

IMG_75764. Ronnie the flip-a-mallow. I must admit, when I first saw the flips, I was not that keen but Ronnie is adorable! He flips into Rosie the pig but I mostly keep him as Ronnie. Ronnie is one of my ISO’s (in search of’s) but you currently cannot buy him in the UK. He is coming to Smyths between 15th-22nd August so I am hoping to get him then but considering the craziness there has been to get fuzz-a-mallow Connor this month, I am not holding out much hope. This Ronnie is super cute though and I will be happy if he is the only Ronnie I end up having in my collection.

IMG_75743. Cherie the sabre-toothed cat. I have loved sabres ever since I was a child (they also make me think of my favourite Power Ranger, Trini Kwan!) and I was so happy to get her! She’s 12 inch and currently sits on my bed with Gracia the Meerkat as my cubes I bought to store everyone are now full!

2. Gigi the Cat. Gigi was one of the first of my ISOs I added to my collection. I am trying to collect as many cat squishmallows as I can and I really wanted her as she is the same colour as my dear cat Ronnie was. She is adorable and is currently sharing a cube with Tally! IMG_7575

IMG_75731. Maurice the Moose. Maurice is my favourite squishmallow ever! He was my first DISO (desperately in search of) that I got. I got him for a really great price on one of the facebook groups as he is currently not available in the UK. He often sits with me in the evenings when I am watching TV although Tash sometimes get annoyed if he is in ‘her spot’ and bats him out of the way!

So that’s my top 5 squishmallows! Do please comment and let me know what your top 5 are!

Shari’s Life: Getting ready for holiday!

Shari's Life

This Sunday me and my sister will be jetting off to Iceland for our first abroad holiday together since 2010 and my first holiday since 2015! I’m really looking forward to it and have spent most of the week so far making sure that I’ve done everything I need to do for it. I like to be prepared so I have already made a packing list and put out things that I know I will need to take! My cat-sitter came by on Monday and collected the spare set of keys. Tash was very happy to see her and tried to get an extra lunch from her too!

I’m hoping to find some time to write before I go but I’m working this week too so I’m not sure how much time I will have. Hopefully I can do some though!

These last few weeks has also been epic for UK squish-hunting! When I started collecting it was so depressing how few squish squads the UK was getting. But in the last few weeks we have had so many new squad drops! And there is more to come! My haul has been pretty insane. It has to be 15 at least! There is a toy shop at Gatwick airport and we’re going to check that before we fly out! I’m hoping they don’t have too many of my ISOs though as I can only fit a few into my suitcase!

This will probably be the last Shari’s Life post until after I come back. We have some exciting excursions planned so I will be taking lots of photos to share with you!
