1652373383“We need to go. Now!” Eric said urgently as he took a step towards Adam. As he did so a shot rang out. The bullet struck the ground between them. Immediately Eric drew his weapon and whirled round.

“Eric,” Neil said smugly. “You are as predictable as Dad said you would be, but I’m disappointed in you, Adam. I would have thought you might have guessed about our little set up.”

“How do you know I haven’t?” Adam replied evenly.

Neil sneered at this comment. He kept his gun trained on Eric as he opened the cell door.

“You’re alone?” Eric stated uneasily. “Isn’t that a bit too confident?”

“Not really. I’ve already beaten you to an inch of your life on two occasions now. But I’m not here for another fight. My orders are much simpler this time.”

“You’re going to kill us,” Adam guessed.

“Just Eric actually. Dad wants me to bring you in alive.”

“Why?” Eric asked.

Neil shrugged, “I would say he wants to kill him himself, but Dad’s always had conflicting emotions where Adam is concerned. I don’t agree with it so please do feel free to give me an excuse to shoot both of you.”

“So, this is an execution?” Was he fast enough to get the gun away from Neil before he could shoot? With it still pointed at his head, Eric was not sure. He was still weighing up the odds when Adam started speaking again.

“Doing it this way lets you off easily, don’t you think?”

“What do you mean by that?” Neil demanded suspiciously as he switched his position to point his gun at Adam instead. Eric’s heart began to beat faster in his chest as he realised what Adam was doing. Forcing down his first instinct to rush Neil, he made himself wait. It had to be at exactly the right moment.

Adam drew a breath as he sat down on the edge of their bed. He could tell by the look on his boyfriend’s face that Eric was not going to back down this time. Momentarily closing his eyes, Adam recalled their conversation when he was still in hospital. He wanted to be honest with Eric. He just did not know how at times.

“Iain was just worried because of everything that has happened,” he said. “He was concerned that going back to London would be too much for me.”

“Is it?”

“No. I want to go. I want to help you to stop Ivan.”

Eric’s expression was still troubled, and he was silent for several seconds before continuing. “But are you all right?”

“Yes.”

“Okay,” Eric said as he sat down beside Adam and took his hand. “Can I ask you to do something for me? Keep away from Williams.”

“Why?” Adam demanded despite already knowing the answer.

“I don’t want you to do something that you will regret.”

“Like kill him? I very much doubt I’d regret that!”

“Williams has to answer for what he has done,” Eric told him firmly. “Not just to you, but everyone that he has hurt.”

“And he will.”

“Not like that.”

“How is your way better?”

“Because when I hear you talking like this, I fear that you’re taking a step towards a path that I cannot follow you down.”

“Eric…”

“I don’t want to lose you like that, Adam. I can’t.”

“I’m sorry,” Adam murmured quietly as he wrapped his arms around Eric and drew him closer. In truth, Adam did not know what he was apologising for. For what he had already done or for what he knew he would do before all of this was over.

image1My print proof of Broken World arrived yesterday evening! I only ordered it the other day so I was really surprised (and happy!) that it came so quickly. Because I am a perfectionist, I can already see a couple of things I want to tweak but hopefully there won’t be many edits! I also couldn’t resist taking a photo of my Perfect World series together! I love how they all look and I cannot wait to take a proper photo once Broken World’s print edition has been finalised!

Today I am so excited to finally be able to share with you all the cover, title and blurb for book 3 in my Perfect World series!

Book 3 is called Broken World and it continues right where New Era left off. I hope you love the cover as much as I do! The release date will be… Friday 8th July 2022!
